| "I was
amazed that a program of this nature had been developed
and can be applied to just about any problem solving
situation."
- Los Alamos National Laboratory |
Los Alamos National Laboratory occupies 43 square miles of land in Northern New Mexico. The Laboratory was born as part of the Manhattan Project to create the first atomic weapons during World War II. It is believed that LANL has the greatest concentration of scientific computing power on the planet. The Laboratory is one of the largest multidisciplinary institutions in the world, with approximately 9,000 employees and personnel, and an annual budget of approximately $1.2 billion. About one-third of the Laboratory's staff members are physicists, one-fourth are engineers, one-sixth are chemists and materials scientists, and the remainder work in mathematics and computational science, biological science, and geosciences. At the birthplace of the atomic era, REASON is the tool of choice for root cause analysis. Over the last decade, LANL has trained hundreds of engineers and other professionals in the REASON Methodology, and continues to require formal REASON training of personnel in critical areas for Laboratory Certification. |
