Quebecor World Inc is the largest commercial printer in the world, with annual revenues of approximately $6.5 billion and more than 160 printing plants and service facilities across its vast global network. Approximately 80% of its sales and 100 locations are in North America where the REASON process has been deployed. The company is an expertise leader in publishing of magazines, catalogs, books, directories and commercial premedia services. The Company employs approximately 40,000 people in its global operations. As a company that has grown through acquisitions (six years ago Quebecor World was nearly 80 different companies), the issue of unified business processes became a major corporate initiative. They viewed operations problems as the direct product of existing business processes, and sought a problem solving methodology and database that they could deploy throughout North America to deal with immediate operational problems. Through this methodology they sought to discover what business processes needed to be changed in order to gain and unify controls and improve performance. Their North American executive team met with DSI to map out an overall strategy. The plan called for full deployment of REASON Root Cause Analysis Skill, REASON Expert System Software, and the REASON Web-Access Lessons Learned System. Mr. Mike Herrington, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing Services structured their strategy to include assigned local responsibility, broad employee involvement, incentives and rewards, and the goal to strengthen each employees commitment to, and involvement in, continuous improvement. As their trained REASON facilitators lead local personnel in solving problems, the resulting data feeds instantly into the Quebecor world web-access lessons learned system to preserve the corporate knowledge that will help managers, planners, supervisors and operations personnel avoid similar problems in the future. |
