Power
Across the entire power industry - from organizations providing fuel, to hydroelectric, nuclear and fossil fuel facilities generating electrical power, to the complex power distribution grids that network across our continent, REASON Root Cause Analysis plays a crucial role in the industry’s problem solving capabilities.
The unique capabilities of REASON Root Cause Analysis methodology and software combine to provide the level of analysis and the foundation for study that is required for power industry problems. Critical elements make REASON the only tool of choice for professional root cause analyses in the power industry:
The REASON methodology uncovers human performance, equipment, materials, environment and process issues in one context for modeling and analysis. A repeatable process with criteria for accuracy, a test for accuracy and rules of logic combine to provide accurate and objective data that will support study and analysis at this level. REASON clients include Reliant Energy, Allegheny Energy, PJM, Midwest Generation, NERC, Georgia Power, Citgo and the global operations of SunCor.
The U.S. Department of Energy called upon REASON technology, personnel and software to head up and coordinate the international root cause analysis team that analyzed the 2003 Blackout that disrupted electrical service on the U.S. East Coast and parts of Canada and had many homeland security issues. That project involved hundreds of investigators, two countries, and numerous power facilities. It produced a causal model graphically depicting over 5000 factors. The entire root cause analysis project was managed using REASON software and methodology.
